3x SEO trends you can’t ignore

Google’s algorithm consists of more than 200 ranking factors. So you have to check a lot of boxes to make your website SEO-proof!

We list the most important recent SEO trends. So you don’t have to figure it out for yourself.

1. Voice search optimization

Although not long ago a casual conversation with a mobile device was something out of a sci-fi movie, we hear it more and more around us: “Google, is it still busy at Schiphol?”

Our search behaviour is making the leap from the old familiar search bar to voice search. What can you do to be relevant to these “out loud” searchers too? Expand your strategy with Voice Search Optimization. A few tips:

    1. Find out if your target audience uses or will use voice search. Adjust your content accordingly.
    2. Focus on keywords from colloquialisms.
    3. Fill a page with a frequently asked question from your field and provide a detailed answer.
    4. Use Schema Markup, a programming language that helps search engines understand the content of a website or page.If you implement Schema Markup correctly on your website, you can get rich snippets with it. They contain more information than the standard meta title, meta description and URL.In general, the easier you make it for a search engine to recognize information, the happier the algorithm will be with you.

2. The power of the first position has changed

Take a good look at the first Search Engine Results Page (SERP), or the first page you see when you search for something through a search engine.

Long ago you only saw snippets of pages. Now? We see FAQ blocks, advertised pages pushing down organic snippets, product ads blocks, front page news, and more.

Your page is ‘buried’ below, which means that the average conversion rate from the first organic position is no longer what it once was. What can you do about it? Focus on how convincing your snippet is. Put more time than you already did into a good call to action.

Is there too much competition? Then think about whether SEA is worth the investment.

3. SERP Analysis: Keyword Research Isn’t Enough Anymore

As you read above, the SERP is no longer what it used to be. In fact, every SERP is classified differently. This affects the click through rate (CTR) of your page. Simply figuring out what words a user is looking for is no longer enough.

More and more SEO specialists are doing a SERP analysis in addition to keyword research. By researching the best-scoring content, you find out which search intent belongs to a keyword, what your competition’s tactics are, and which content pushes the algorithm forward. Optimize your content using this data.
